This was clear to me from a week-long stay in New York earlier this month.
The constant &quot;blackberryitis&quot; and interruptions to face-to-face conversations to read and reply to incoming messages disrupted both social and business meetings wherever I went. Several times, a 2-person lunch would be largely silent as each participant spent the time scrolling and keying between bites (not bytes).
While data may be there in profusion, I suspect that information let alone analysis, thought and debate are losing out severely as this phenomenon takes grip. Attention spans are apparently reducing sharply. One could expect the quality of decisions to reduce DESPITE all the data to hand. One of life&#039;s ironies...</description>
